For the first meeting of the new season we welcomed back members, greeted potential new members and guests. At the start of the evening Dorchester Camera Club President, Sid Jones, presented David Harrop with the Konica Rose-bowl after a successful year in the B Section. In future years recipients will automatically go into the A Section but this year it will be David’s choice whether to defend his trophy or join the Advanced group.
After catching up on Club news we looked at the 2010 London Salon. Images are selected for their artistic & aesthetic qualities and are best described as Fine Art.
This is a print Salon but was presented as digital projected images. When viewed this way you miss the subtleties of paper finishes, delicate darkroom toning and choice of presentation that are the hallmark of Fine Art prints but it was still a pleasure to see work of this quality at the club.
We all had our own favourites and also some that we were less enthusiastic about, but with the diversity of subject matter this was to be expected and as hoped it promoted much discussion.
Almost every image showed great mastery of photography and creativity both in the camera and subsequent processing.
Maybe some of our members will be sufficiently inspired to submit images in 2012. To be selected for such a prestigious salon is a feather in any photographer’s cap.
