13th February 2012 Iceland with Anne MahanyARPS AFIAP

Iceland – Born of Fire, Living with Ice! A presentation by Anne Mahany

It is perhaps surprising that a small island, composed mainly of larva and volcanic ash, situated in the North Atlantic and a short distance south of the Arctic Circle, should be such a magnet for photographers.
However, word of its scenic beauty must have leaked out so, on the evening of Monday 13th February, Club members turned up in strength to view some stunning projected images of Iceland taken by Anne Mahaney, of Fordingbridge Camera Club.
Anne had kindly filled in at relatively short notice for David Clapp who found he was unable to show his advertised programme of ‘Seascapes and Landscapes’.
As a result, members were treated instead to a circular tour of Iceland, taking in many of the major scenic attractions. We saw magnificent waterfalls, boiling mud pools, steaming volcanic fissures and of course the famous ‘Geysir’, caught in the act!
Several of the remarkable land and seascapes projected were embellished with those beautiful skies for which Iceland is also renowned.
Neither were the birds and animals neglected. I particularly admired Anne’s magical shot of a group of Arctic Terns in flight which she had also printed, together with about a dozen other images, for us to examine more closely in the interval.
For Pauline and me it was a real treat to see another photographer’s view of Iceland, which has always been one of our favourite photographic locations. My only regret is that we never saw even one of the many reindeer which Anne had managed to grab with her camera. However we did get to see lots of puffins instead!
