Cobb Wave by Tony Gill
Cobb Wave by Tony Gill

Canon 5D Mk2 with Canon 100-400L - With a period of stormy weather due, I checked the forecast and tide times for Lyme Regis where this was taken and chose a suitable day to visit at high tide, which makes for the biggest waves. I braced myself against one of the beach huts, sheltered from the strong winds, to compose the shot.

I love the shape of this single side lit wave crashing against the Cobb sea wall; not the biggest from the storms, but emblematic of all waves and their huge power. The seagull just avoiding a soaking was a small but important detail.
