Canon 5D Mk III with Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

I was on a trip to Svalbard in June 2013 when we spotted this polar bear on a small rocky island. As we were in a small Zodiac boat, I had to brace myself against the movement of the boat whilst hand-holding the camera to get my shot at 200mm. I shot at f/10 to show some of the mountainous background but still wanted to ensure that the polar bear stood out.

For me, the Power of Nature is exemplified by the world’s largest land predator, that most powerful and iconic of animals, the Polar Bear. I like this image because the low shooting angle shows the majestic stance of the polar bear against its natural Arctic habitat. Truly, the King of the Arctic.
