Starlings on the Move by Tim Downton
Starlings on the Move by Tim Downton

Canon EOS 5D Mark III with Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM - I took this photograph whilst on a holiday in the Somerset Levels. My aim was to show the amazing spectacle of thousands of starlings in a murmuration, swooping and diving in unison, to congregate and roost in the reed beds at night. The light was getting low so I used a tripod with a ball head to keep the camera steady. The camera was set at 1/30 at f/4 with ISO400 to show the movement. I zoomed in to 200mm to maximise the impact and make the spectacle full frame.

I love this photo because it shows the energy and the power of this amazing spectacle.
