CLUB NEWS 2018-2019 SEASON
A summary of club activities, club successes and individual member’s success in the 2018-2019 season. This page will be up-dated whenever we have news to add so please email the club at email@example.com to tell us of any news you have.

FIPF Success - Congratulations to Jay Haines who has been awarded a Fellowship of the Irish Photographic Federation with her panel 'Visions of Music' - a very well deserved success
BPE2 - Well done to Jane Lee and to Stephen Lee who have both been awarded the BPE2 Distinction for each having at least 50 photos accepted into British Photographic Exhibition (BPE) Salons.
Front Cover - Pick up a copy of the Domus Inspired Living Magazine with John Simpson's beautiful photograph 'Blubells on Bulbarrow Hill' on the front cover. Great work, John!
Only Mono - the club were delighted to win joint 2nd place in the 'Only Mono' Print Competition run by Cymru Monochrome. Our entries were 'Renovation Needed' by Barry Senior (17/20); 'Wild Dog Hunting' by Lisa Bukalders )17/20); 'Fenceline' by Jane Lee (18/20) and 'Team Race, Tour de France' by Stephen Jones (19/20). Well done to Jane and Stephen who were each awarded a Highly Commended certificate and thanks to John Tilsley for doing the selection.
DPAGB - Congratulations to Jane Lee who achieved her DPAGB at the Awards for Photographic Merit in Colwyn Bay
CPAGB - Congratulations to Martin Davenport who achieved his CPAGB at the Awards for Photographic Merit in Colwyn Bay
Cheltenham Salon - Congratulations to Val Brierley and Derek Philpott who received acceptances in the Cheltenham International Salon of Photography
Joan Blease Charity Print Competition - Well done to Penny Piddock who won a Judges Award from Mark Turner for ‘Release’ and had a second image accepted in Joan Blease’s Charity Print Competition in support of St Rocco’s Hospice. The theme was ‘Uplifting’ and this could be interpreted in any way the photographer chose.
WCPF AV Competition - Club members did extremely well at the 2019 WCPF AV Competition held at Clyst St Mary on April 6th. Greg Duncan received a Highly Commended in the Short AV (documentary) section with his very funny 'Why I gave up Slide Shows'. Lisa Bukalders won the M.A.D. Trophy for the audience popular vote and 3rd place in the Photo Harmony section with her lovely 'Visions of Africa'. Then to top it all, Jane and Stephen Lee won the Photo Harmony Trophy section and were 2nd in the audience popular vote with their 'Yellowstone Winter'. But none of them won anything in the raffle!
Brownsword Hall Open Day - The club took part in the Brownsword Hall Open Day. Thank you to David Whitton for organising our stand and to Jane Lee, Jane Tearle and Stephen Lee for assisting him on the day.
WCPF Member’s Exhibition - Well done to everyone who entered the WCPF Members Exhibition. 23 club members entered and we had 86 acceptances between us. 13 members won awards – special mention to Tim Downton who received a Gold Medal and the award for Best Wildlife. Other awards went to: Susan Buckland, Martin Davenport, Mary Cantrille (2), Jane Lee (3), Helen Jones, Stephen Jones (3), Derek Philpott (2), Penny Piddock, Jane Tearle, Lisa Bukalders, Tim Downton, Steve Lord, James Kelly and Stephen Lee.
IAC AV Competition - Lisa Bukalders did extremely well in her very first AV Competition, receiving an Honorary Mention for ‘Visions of Africa’ at the prestigious IAC Peter Coles International AV Competition in Bridgend.
BPE 1 - Well done to Stephen Jones for being awarded the BPE 1 Crown distinction. This is awarded for 25 acceptances in BPE Salons which are notoriously tough!
Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year - Big congratulations to Stephen Lee who received a Highly Commended for ‘Flowing to the Sea’ in the 2019 Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition. His photo will be included in the book published by the organisers.
Southampton International Salon - Southampton International Salon results came out and there were many successes for club members including medals for Stephen Jones (2), Tim Downton and Mary Cantrille.
Knightshayes Trophy 2019 - Well done to Janet Comley and Dee Wareham both of whom received a Highly Commended in the WCPF Knightshayes Trophy (theme ‘Gold’)
Big Picture Sale - Lots of members contributed work to the Big Picture Sale run by Dorchester Arts.
RPS Nature Exhibition - Tim Downton had 5 out of 8 images accepted into the Royal Photographic Society Nature Group exhibition which is a fantastic achievement
BPE 3 - Well done to Frances Underwood who was awarded the BPE 3 Crown Distinction. This is awarded for 100 acceptances in BPE Salons which are notoriously tough!
2019 Bristol Salon - Members did extremely well in the 2019 Bristol International Salon with 76 acceptances overall. Mary Cantrille and Spike Piddock were both awarded gold medals; Martin Davenport received a silver and Paul Clarke a bronze. Tim Downton had two ribbons. Highly Commended went to Jane Tearle, Jane Lee, Greg Duncan, Val Duncan and Mary Cantrille
WCPF DPIC Competition - The Club tied with Bristol for first place in the annual WCPF Digitally Projected Image Competition (DPIC). We were awarded the winner’s trophy however as two of our entries received Selector’s ribbons – well done to Jane Lee for receiving a ribbon from Peter Young for ‘Bison on the Ridge’ and to Helen Jones for receiving a ribbon from Phil Charnock for ‘Life in Technicolor’
PAGB Cups -The Club was delighted to achieve 11th place in the PAGB Nature Cup and 14th place in the PAGB Open Cup. Jane Lee was awarded a silver medal for ‘Bison on the Ridge’ so well done to Jane. We were the highest scoring club in Southern England in both competitions.
Hospital Exhibition - Thanks to David Whitton and to Arts in Hospitals for the club’s exhibition in Dorchester Hospital. Our work is brightening up the corridors around Damers Restaurant and will be on display until 27th April. We had a great team from the club hanging the work on 15th January. Arts in the Hospital have showcased much our work on their Facebook page and in the press.
Wareham Salon - Plenty of members supported the first ever Wareham salon and had a good number of acceptances and awards between them. Jane Lee received a Chairman’s Choice award; Frances Underwood received a silver medal; Tim Downton received a gold medal; Susan Buckland, Malcolm Kitto, Derek Philpott, Tim Downton (2), Stephen Jones, Stephen Lee, Frances Underwood and Spike Piddock (3) had HMs.
Smethwick Salon - Penny Piddock, Spike Piddock and Jane Tearle represented the Club at the opening of the Smethwick International Photography Salon –and Jane won a tripod in the raffle. Many club members entered this and did extremely well. Jane Lee won a gold medal, a silver medal and a ribbon; Stephen Lee and Spike Piddock also won ribbons

LRPS - Congratulations to Annette Beardsley for achieving her LRPS Distinction
Masters of Print - Big mention here for Jane Lee who had a print accepted into the very prestigious PAGB Master of Print Competition – only 60 prints were chosen.
DPAGB - Congratulations to Frances Underwood and Stephen Lee who were both awarded their DPAGB Distinction in Pontefract.
Kingswood Salver - The Club came third in the annual WCPF Kingswood Salver Panels Competition with a sublime panel of Seascapes. The photographs were by Jane Lee, Stephen Lee, Ivor Toms, Tony Gill and Steve Lord and panel was put together by Dee and Geoff Wareham who put a huge amount of work into this entry.
Wessex Battle - Well done to our friends at Wareham Camera Club for winning the annual Wessex Battle! Dorchester and Blandford tied for second place. Spike Piddock received an HC for ‘Blue Trigger Fish’ and Paul Raudner received a score of 9.5 for ‘Decay Under a Big Sky- - his first time representing the club in an external competition. Thanks to the judge, Alison Cawley ARPS DPAGB and our own John Tilsley who organised the event.
ARPS - Congratulations to Alison Webber who was awarded her ARPS in Fine Art
CPAGB - Congratulations to Frank Schweitzer who was awarded his CPAGB
Knightshayes Trophy - Well done to Helen Jones who received an HC in the 2018 WCPF Knightshayes Trophy (theme – Formation). The judging was delayed from March due to bad weather.
PSA Gold - Congratulations to Janet Haines for receiving the Photographic Society of America (PSA) Gold award for a stunning panel of 20 images. This is the highest award given by the PSA.
DCU Lightboxes - Well done to Penny Piddock, Helen Jones and Tony Gill for having images selected to be made into A1 lightboxes for the new Cancer Unit at Dorset County Hospital.
Welsh International Salon - Congratulations to Stephen Lee who was awarded a FIAP Blue Badge in the Welsh International Salon with 16 acceptances and a PSA ribbon. Jane Lee was just behind him with 14 acceptances, a medal and two ribbons. Susan Buckland also did well with 3 acceptances.
Spirit of Nature - Jane Lee won David Noton's 'Spirit of Nature' award in the online f11 magazine
