Club News 2017-2018 Season
A summary of club activities, club successes and individual member’s success in the 2017-2018season. This page will be up-dated whenever we have news to add so please email the club at firstname.lastname@example.org to tell us of any news you have.

Wessex Photo Competition – Well done to Jane Tearle for having a photo in the final of the Wessex Photo Competition.
DACA – Club members swept the board in the Dorset Arts and Crafts Society Annual Photographic Exhibition / Competition winning all 5 trophies. Frank Schweitzer won nature; Jane Lee won mono; Stephen Lee won open; Helen Lord won Landscape and Steve Lord won creative. Congratulations to them all.
Party in the Park- The club provided photographers for the Air 107.2 Party in the Park at Lodmoor, Weymouth. Helen Jones, Stephen Jones and Paul Raudner had a very hot but enjoyable day.
PAGB Inter Club PDI Competition – Helen and Stephen Jones, assisted by Valerie and Greg Duncan represented the club at Warwick for the 2018 PAGB Inter Club PDI Competition. We were 8th after round 1; 11th after round 2; and joint 10th in the Plate with Bristol although there were very few points in it! Well done to Spike Piddock, Tim Downton, Stephen Jones, Valerie Duncan and Jane Lee who all scored 13 or 14 for their photos
Edinburgh Salon – Well done to Lisa Bukalders on 3 acceptances

Jack Vorster Trophy (greatest contribution to the club – voted for by the membership) – Maggie Lawrence
Dorchester Carnival – the Club provided the photographers for Dorchester Carnival – Helen Jones, Stephen Jones, Paul Raudner and Ivor Toms braved the heavy rain!
AFIAP – Congratulations to Frances Underwood on achieving her AFIAP
Hoylake Salon – Well done to Stephen Lee on 11 acceptances in the Hoylake Salon including a Chairman’s Award and an HM. Jane Lee had an impressive 9 acceptances.
Only Mono – Dorchester came 2nd out of 42 Clubs at the ‘Only Mono’ Competition in Port Talbot. The entry is just 4 photos per club and our four were selected by John Tilsley. They were by Jane Lee, Lisa Bukalders, Stephen Jones and Helen Jones – each in a different genre. Well done to Jane Lee for coming in the top 5 with ‘Bison on the Ridge’
Dorchester Marathon – The Club provided the photographers for the 2nd Dorchester Marathon. Thanks to Sid Jones, Val Brierley, Jane Tearle, Roland Tarr, Richard Anders, Glynn Grylls, Steve Lord, Helen Lord, Stephen Jones and Helen Jones
Lions 10k and 2k – The Club provided the photographers for the Dorchester Lions 10k and 2k races. Thanks to Janine Scola, Pam Hunt, Glynn Grylls, Paul Raudner, Paul Barrow, David Harrop and David Whitton.
London Salon – The London Salon is generally regarded as one of the most difficult and most prestigious salons and so we are delighted that Lisa Bukalders was awarded a medal for ‘The Ostriches Journey’ – and had 3 other acceptances as well. Well done Lisa!
Cheltenham Salon – Congratulations to Tim Downton on 4 acceptances in the Cheltenham International salon including a PSA Gold for Best Authentic Wildlife for “Squacco Heron With Catch” Susan Buckland had 5 acceptances in the same salon and was awarded a GPU ribbon. Well done both!
Salon Success – Stephen Jones has been busy gathering acceptances towards his AFIAP with 3 acceptances in the Scottish salon, 5 in Sydney Harbour International and 7 in New York Manhattan.
WCPF Members Exhibition – a very successful exhibition for Club members. Lisa Bukalders won Gold in the Open Digital Class for ‘Flying Finches’ and not only the Gold in Monochrome Print for ‘Ostrich Family Outing’ but also the Millennium Trophy for the best print in the exhibition. Frank Schweitzer won a bronze for ‘Bearded Reedling at Radipole. Awards went to: Neil Crick, Jane Lee (4), Susan Buckland (2), Frances Underwood, Tim Downton (3), Spike Piddock (3) Jane Tearle, Stephen Lee (2), and Frank Schweitzer.
Triple Challenge - Dorchester won the Triple Challenge, a friendly competition with Southampton and Highcliffe & Infinity Clubs. Helen Jones, Lisa Bukalders and Stephen Jones were all scored a 10 by judge Tony Worobiec and were the highest scoring prints. Tim Downton received two 10s in the PDI section.
Huangbai Mountain Exhibition – well done to Stephen Jones for four acceptances in this new salon
ARPS – Congratulations to Helen Jones for being awarded an ARPS in the Fine Art category.
Southampton International Salon – well done to Lisa Bukalders for winning a Gold medal for ‘Ostrich Family Outing’. Stephen Jones received a certificate and Lisa, Stephen, Penny Piddock and Spike Piddock all had acceptances.
Bristol International Salon – acceptances for 22 different club members including their first salon acceptances for Alison Webber, Steve Lord and Graham Lawrence. Well done to Janet Haines on her silver medal and awards went to Susan Buckland, Stephen Jones, Jane Tearle, Tim Downton and Iain Friend.
WCPF DPIC – we came second in the WCPF DPIC Competition – it was won by Bristol. Well done to Jane Lee and Iain Friend who had photos Highly Commended.
Workshops – two good workshops – a group went on David Clapp workshop followed by a day out doing Landscape Photography with David. Thanks to Penny Piddock for organising this. Another group paid a very early morning visit to Kingston Lacy to photography the snowdrops, organised by club member, Chris Mitchell.
PAGB Nature Cup – the club came a fantastic 4th place and well done to Tim Downton for coming joint 5th in the individual photographer placings.
PAGB GB Cup – Dorchester came 36th in this. Our highest scores were from Valerie Duncan and Stephen Jones.
Yorkshire International Salon – well done to Stephen Jones on 7 acceptances in this!
FIAP World Cup – we are delighted that Dorchester came in 6th place with an Honourable Mention in the 2017 FIAP World Cup. Janet Haines won a bronze medal for ‘Athena’
Kingswood Salver – The club came third in this year’s Kingswood Salver panels competition with a panel of 4 rusting and decrepit cars and one ‘hidden gem’. Thank you to our photographers;Derek Philpott, Graham Lawrence, Frances Underwood, Iain Cameron and Lisa Bukalders.
Landscape Photographer of the Year – Congratulations to Jane Lee and Tony Gill who both had acceptances in this big national competition. Jane had a highly commended and was runner-up for the Network Rail award for ‘Lines in the Landscape’. Tony was commended in the Classic View section with ‘Electrolight, The Marshwood Vale’
Smethwick Salon – Club members did really well in this. Penny Piddock received a gold for her print of an Eagle Ray and a PSA ribbon for ‘Octopus on the Move’.
Huw Alban Workshop – a group from the club went to Thorncombe Woods and Osmington Mills with Huw Alban. A follow-up session was held in Weymouth in April.
Wessex Battle – Dorchester won this…just! It was very tight. Tony Gill won the trophy for the best individual image; Valerie Duncan came 2nd and Iain Friend 3rd. Thanks to our judge, Sue Sibley and to John Tilsley for organising the event.
