In the first half of the evening, Sue showed us some finished prints and the images which she used to create them. Punctuated with amusing anecdotes, Sue talked about how she combines unrelated images, some taken on her phone, into impressive pictures. The vision, technical skill, and patience behind these was incredible; for one image Sue had cut around the spokes of a bicycle wheel to achieve the outcome she wanted!
Not all the images were composites and Sue mentioned techniques which she uses to transform an OK picture into a very good one.
During the interval we were able to look at Sue’s panel of 20 prints which was her successful submission for fellowship of the Irish Photographic Federation.
After the break Sue talked about some of her prints from across many genres including landscape, portraiture, nature, macro as well as still life and creative images. Sue passed some of these prints around the room allowing us to appreciate the difference the choice of paper makes to a print and how sometimes smaller prints are more effective than large ones. I will not be the only club member who went away thinking which of Sue’s ideas they would like to try first.
