Landscape Special Interest Group

The Landscape SIG was started in 2024 by a number of Club Members who are passionate about the landscape in which we are so lucky to live here in Dorset. Since then our numbers have increased steadily and now stands at a healthy 43.

Below you will find a selection of our images, an description of the scope of the SIG and what we do.

Scope

Many people and including photographers think of landscape as being all about the “vista” and we certainly have those here in Dorset. However, it is so much more. There are cityscapes, urbanscapes, seascapes, astronomy and not to forget intimate landscapes to mention but a few. This gives us as a group, a wide range of subjects to capture and to share. But, it is not just limited to Dorset. Many of our members travel far and wide and it is always a pleasure to see images from those travels.

There is much crossover with other SIG’s and in particular Nature and Creative. Nature is embedded in so many landscapes and furthermore it would be fair to say that some of our members are inspirational with their creativity. At the en

What do we do?

Every month and usually on the 4th Thursday we have a Zoom meeting in the evening. Here we upload images to share with other members of the group and some lively discussions ensue. It is though, very positive and indeed we all learn a little something from every meeting.

We have organised Field Workshops with professional photographers. These are in small groups and where we can gain maximum benefit from the tuition. We hope to be able to organise further workshops moving forwards.

We also go out on informal outings to visit certain locations. A recent one was to St Georges and Tout Quarry on Portland. A fascinating place, we enjoyed “visually exploring” with each other and sharing our interpretations post edit.

Outside of the club’s regular Monday Club Night, members of the SIG are able to communicate via email, as well as via a Landscape WhatsApp group.

All are welcome to join the group and it is a great way to socialise and get to know members of the club. Members are also welcome to sample our Zoom meetings and to see if it might be for them.
