Sport Photography

30 March 2026

Michael presented an informative talk on how he prepares himself and his equipment before setting out to photograph sporting events.

He then explained his approach when at the venue. In addition to action shots Michael looks out for opportunities to photograph competitors preparing for the event, celebrating the win or agonising over the defeat.

He also looks for pictures which tell the full story of the event, photographing the officials, people working behind the scenes and the venues themselves.

In the last part of the evening, Michael talked us through how he processes the hundreds, if not thousands, of images which he captures at an event and how he publishes them or distributes them to clients often in a short time to meet press deadlines.

Throughout the evening, we enjoyed seeing Michael’s inspiring pictures across a range of sports, from his beloved cricket to polo, from football to lawn bowls and many more. This presentation was based on a wealth of experience and delivered with confidence and humour by someone who clearly enjoys sport and photographing it.

We all learnt something from the evening including the importance of keeping a KitKat in the camera bag!
