Distinctions Special Interest Group

This is the original Special Interest Group, set up some 12 years ago to help members gain distinctions from either the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) or the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB). It is appropriate here to explain the basic difference; images are submitted as panels to the RPS and as individuals to the PAGB.

Alan Setchell's successful LRPS panel

It differs from all the others in several ways, most importantly we meet in person at the Colliton Club, County Hall, DT1 1XJ. This was because although we were able to and did work with PDIs our focus was to submit images in the print form. When the group was set up zoom did not exist and the way the group functions does not fit well in that medium. Importantly membership is not limited to DCC members over the years we have helped individuals from all the local clubs.

It is not a requirement those attending are working towards a distinction. We are there to help anyone improve their standard of photography within a group of fellow photographers who offer critiques in a helpful and understanding way. Over the years the group has been very successful achieving a success rate of more than 90%.

The group meets every other last Thursday in the month, the dates for the rest of the season are:

29th January

19th March

28th May

23rd July

There is a £3 per night contribution towards the room hire.

If you would like to join us let me know and turn up with 10 – 15 images. These can be PDIs or prints but don’t print and mount especially for the night.

Some big changes in the RPS distinctions have been signalled. These may change the way that the group operates. We will keep members informed.
