An evening with David Clapp

David is a natural educator and is always keen to give people ideas and tools to improve their photography. Using some of his wonderful images, he gave a masterclass in composition and talked about how to put together a well balance landscape by deliberate ‘placement’ of subjects within the image. He showed how panoramic landscape images could be broken down in a multitude of ways at different ratios to produce other compelling compositions.

David explained how he engaged with complete strangers to take captivating portraits and how he might take them from a slightly lower angle to give them the 'energy’ in the image. He was able to make seemingly mundane utilitarian buildings and urban environments come alive with interest.

David’s enthusiasm for his craft was clear to see, and everyone will have come away with something to think about.

Date for your Diary

David will be returning to the club on 7 November for an all-day workshop. When the details are released next season, make sure you get your name down for a ticket quickly as places will be limited.

Postscript

If you look at the Blog on David’s website (davidclapp.co.uk) there are two very interesting articles:

The first is how to wirelessly display what’s on your PC/laptop to a 4K TV (you can also connect via a long HDMI cable). We tried it with our Windows PC and were able to wirelessly display what was on our PC screen to the TV and view both still images and AVs (mp4 worked best) from the comfort of our sofa. You might need to adjust your screen refresh rate to 60Hz for best results with AVs, via the options for second screen display settings on your PC/laptop.

The second article was about a free plug-in called Cloud Horizon Distance for the Windy.com app which is used by landscape photographers. This plug-in is essential for those wanting to take sunrise/sunset images as it shows cloud layer. There are three cloud layers which affect how the light will reach you and whether there could be the chance of a colourful sky. No guarantees you will get one of course, but full details of how to use the App are included in the Blog.
